The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is accepting applications for a five month fellowship program that supports archaeological research on artifacts recovered from excavations in the rear yard of the Museum’s landmark tenement building located at 97 Orchard Street. The Archaeology Fellow will conduct research in support of the museum’s new exhibit which recreates the mid-19th-century privies once located at the rear of the building. The Archaeology Fellow is expected to work with Museum staff to conduct thorough analysis and documentation of the 314 artifacts recovered from the privy vault. This information will be a crucial aspect in the interpretation of the new exhibit.
