DISCLAIMER - I'e never actually used this product, and I'm in complete agreement that it may-or-may- not be appropriate for museum /archival purposes so try it at your own risk....

With that said, some time ago on the Small Museums list, when some was looking for an inexpensive source of Ethafoam, it was recommended they try the 100% polyethylene foam sold by Ikea as a laminate floor liner.

It's called "Niva Floor Liner" and is $24, for a 39" wide by 49 foot long roll.
see:  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00018076

The primary advantage is for those who live in a major metro area and might be able to drive to the local Ikea store and pick up a few rolls.  ....not so much an advantage for those living in the boonies.   ...and again, I'll add the giant disclaimer that I'm sure Dave (and our other resident conservators will mention) these are inherent risks about using this "consumer flooring product" for "commercial archival purposes" -- but for those who are needing to doing lots, with little resources, I thought I'd toss it out as a potential compromise.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Source for rolled ethafoam

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a
good source for reasonably priced
rolled ethafoam?  I tried to order some today and with the

$150+ shipping charge it would have been over $400 for a 1/8”, 300’,
48” roll.  Or is there another material that works

equally well for lining shelves and carts?

Thank you,
