Look to your local community foundation - they may be able to help and may have more flexible deadlines.

Also, a general resource in addition to AASLH are the cooperating collections of the Foundation Center - www.foundationcenter.org. They can help you search for applicable grants and understand the process of grant-seeking. Please note that they are not grant-making entities but can help educate you in the process of researching and writing grant proposals.
