We use Rollataq (Daige Corp). It’s an archival water based
glue. We apply the glue to mat board with a foam roller which can be reused many
times. It isn’t messy like spray adhesive and it’s
cheaper than sheet adhesives or dry mount adhesives. Even though we print our
labels on regular paper, not cardstock, this product does not
make the paper buckle.
The labels can be cut to size on a paper cutter or bevel
cut on a table-top mat cutter.

I
like a material called Twin Tack or Double Tack (brand names) It’s a
double-sided dry mount adhesive. Seems to be less susceptible to humidity than
3M’s Positionable Mounting Adhesive or spray mounts.

You might look into either a
heat mount or cold mount adhesive or Crescent makes an adhesive mount board. We
have used all three methods, but currently use a cold mount version that comes
on a roll. I think it is a giant roll of ATG framers tape actually.
Some museums still make
labels on paper or card stock and then place a plexi cover over the label with
a couple of brads to nail it in place.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] making labels- alternative to aerosol spray
Good
morning!
Does
anybody have suggestions for making in-house labels? Right now we use cardstock
adhered to mat board with an aerosol adhesive spray which is then cut to size
using a mat cutter. I’m hoping to find an alternative to using the
aerosol spray. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
