Dear List:

I am a grad student working on a design for an information retrieval system for digital images in cultural institutions (as a project for a class).  Part of the project is to investigate the users of such a system.  If you could spare a minute or two for this very informal questionnaire I would really appreciate it.  Imagine that this system would/could be implemented as a kiosk that it available to the public (or your membership) to enable them to search your image collections with little to no assistance from your staff as well as a tool to be used by the staff.

Who is your typical researcher/user?  (i.e. male or female? age range? Scholar, student, member of the community?)

What is the skill level of your typical researcher?  Are they experienced computer users?

What is your typical researcher looking for and/or why are the searching?

How would your user prefer to search the system? (i.e. keyword? category?  image type? something else?)

How would you prefer to search the system? (i.e. keyword? category?  image type? something else?)

What is something you would consider a ‘must have’ in an image retrieval system?

Please feel free to make additional comments or suggestions.  Please respond to me off list.  Thank you!
