Margaret,

Unless the clippings come as a very important part of a larger collection of personal papers, then I'd try not to collect them. If you do take them, photocopy them on archival quality paper and discard the originals.

Or if the newspapers in question are held at the local or regional library, you could have a volunteer compile a list of article citations from what a person wants to donate and the group them into different subjects. That would serve as a good guide or bibliography for researchers who want to use newspaper sources. If they feel so inclined they can go track down the actual article from one of those other institutions.

I am trying to set up policies, procedures, and processes relating to newspaper clippings.
Our small town historical society uses Past Perfect, so that we can catalog, sort, etc.
but for the physical storage do you keep clippings together by donor, date, topic, ?
Where do you draw the line and say "We don't keep this"?
