Education Assistant, The Clarice Smith American Art Education Initiative

The Smithsonian American Art Museum (American Art) is searching for an individual to provide administrative and organizational support for The Clarice Smith American Art Education Initiative, a new national professional development program for educators to begin Summer 2009.  The Initiative is designed to help participants integrate the visual arts acr oss the curriculum using technology.
 
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
§  Assisting with all aspects of developing and organizing two yearly week-long professional development programs with on-going support services for educator participants
§  Securing and executing logistical support for programs such as overseeing site preparation and working in advance and on-site with building crew, security staff,  audiovisual technicians, caterer s, and other specialists
§  Coordinating registrations, short-range and long-range program and production schedules, and assessments
§  Fulfilling administrative duties including requisitions, requests for purchase orders, and petty cash vouchers; making travel arrangements; maintaining accurate program records and all data entry; and preparing and coordinating distribution of print and web-based materials  
§  Communicating with participants using collaborative website, maintaining site’s resources, and conducting student videoconferences
§  Serving as a member of the National Education Partnerships team in American Art’s Education Office
 
Qualifications for this position include:
§  Knowledge of American art and culture and teaching with objects
§  Experience working with students and teachers
§  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
§  Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines
§  Knowledge of videoconferencing, collaborative websites, and other educational technology applications
§  Proficiency in Microsoft Office
 
Job Specifics:
§  Trust funded position at IS-05, starting salary $33K with benefits. Five year temporary position. < /SPAN>
