Cheyenne, Wyoming, occupies a special place in the legendary old west. At the same time, it manifests the spirit of the new west where generating solutions for modern world concerns are met with perspectives as wide-open as the plains. "New West Solutions in Old West Settings" evokes both the essence of conference host city Cheyenne and invites reflection on the theme of innovative responses to such age-old museum concerns as economic survival, preservation of what is valued in the cultural and natural environment, and handing over the reins to the next generation of leaders, scholars, and practitioners. Session proposals relating to the conference theme and which focus on successful solutions are warmly welcomed, as are proposals relating to any other expedient museum issues connected with challenge, response, and change. 6. Location for MPMA's 2009 Annual Conference: Cheyenne, Wyoming Cheyenne. Just the name of our host community for the 2009 MPMA Annual Conference conjures up images of the old west, pioneers, rodeos, western and native traditions. Today, Cheyenne is one of the West's most vibrant cities animated by a vitality that brings western values and modern technology together to create memorable and enjoyable experiences to all who visit. Cheyenne's motto is "Live the Legend" and few places rival its rich cultural heritage. Cheyenne combines the romantic allure of the Old West with the energy of the New West - carriage and trolley rides take you through its many historic districts where it takes little imagination to see yourself in the old rowdy town bars, working the rails, or remembering the cattle barrons and their elegant society. Cheyenne's rich cultural heritage and diversity comes to life whether listening to cell phone audio tours, visiting the many museums or riding through nearby buffalo herds. Living the Legend is easy in Cheyenne, and you can readily see how high-tech initiatives have enhanced the experience that the community provides for its visitors - and indeed why Cheyenne is the perfect place to find new west solutions in an old west setting.
