A good unit to look at is Voicesaver from Califone, they come in two sizes; model 282 and model 285, both are very portable.  they have clips on the back so you can clip to a belt or you can buy a strap to wear it over your shoulder.  they have either a headset microphone or a lapel microphone choice, I don't know which it come with, but check out their site:  http://www.califone.com/portable.php

The National Air and Space Museum and the Udvar-Hazy Center docents use these on their guided tours.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] portable PA systems for walking tours?
To: [log in to unmask]

Can anyone recommend a good PA system for outdoor walking tours?  This would be for a guide leading groups of 20-30 people.

I’ve been given a short list of portable PA systems to review, but they all have relatively heavy speakers. Even a 5 lb speaker can be a lot when you are carrying it around during a 90 minute walking tour – and none of them give the guide a hands free situation.
