We use http://www.chattervox.com/ Chattervox speakers. Lightweight, can be worn over the shoulder or waist on a strap. Battery operated. We use them indoors so I’m not sure how their volume would cut through the background noise of the outdoors, but I haven’t found them lacking.
Something to consider.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] portable PA
systems for walking tours?
Can anyone recommend a good PA system for outdoor walking tours? This would be for a guide leading groups of 20-30 people.
I’ve been given a short list of portable PA systems to review, but they all have relatively heavy speakers. Even a 5 lb speaker can be a lot when you are carrying it around during a 90 minute walking tour – and none of them give the guide a hands free situation.
