Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The Adler Planetarium is seeking applications for a Research Fellowship in Astrophysics to carry out research in gamma-ray astronomy. The applicant will work with the VERITAS group at the Adler. Applicants for this position must have their PhD (or near completion) in Physics, Astronomy or a related field and should have experience with high-energy astrophysics and/or high-energy physics instrumentation and data analysis. The successful applicant will be expected to lead analysis related to Active Galactic Nuclei including relevant modeling and simulations, coordinate multiwavelength campaigns and analysis and spend at least 30% time at the VERITAS site taking data and assisting with image quality systems work and spend 10% time on education and outreach activities related to VERITAS.
The initial appointment will be for two years with a possible one-year extension dependent on successful performance and availability of funding. This position will report to the Director of Astronomy and will have oversight by the Vice President for Research. Experience with education and outreach is not necessary, but enthusiasm for engaging the public in science education is. Applications will be accepted until February 1, 2009. The position will be available starting Summer 2009.
