Definition and Distinguishing Characteristics
*

This position works with the Roswell Museum and Art Center's Curatorial
staff on various projects in registration and collections management.

Work involves the application of specialized bodies of knowledge to research
temporary and loan exhibitions, education, and promotion of the Museum's
assets and programs. Work is performed in accordance with American
Association of Museums standards and practices. These interns allow the
incumbents to gain experience in all areas of museum work and, for example,
enable the incumbents to make choices of specialization for future education
and training. This internship program receives direction from and is
supervised by the Museum's Assistant Director. Work involves some contact
with the general public.

Typical Examples of Work Performed
*

The Curatorial/Registration Intern works closely with the Registrar and
Assistant Director on projects relating to the care, research , and
documentation of the collection, as well as the development and presentation
of art and history exhibitions. Projects may include researching artifacts,
learning conservation techniques, writing exhibition text, data entry, and
installing exhibitions.

May work with Personal Computers (PC's).

May drive City vehicles.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
*

Some knowledge of Art History, anthropology and/or History.

Some knowledge of museum registration and curatorial practices.

Knowledge of and ability to use Personal Computers and related programs.

Skill in organization and the desire to enter the museum profession.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to drive City vehicles safely and efficiently.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
fellow employees and the general public.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience
*

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree
in American History, Anthropology, Art History or a related field,
preferably supplemented by graduate-level study.

Experience in the use of personal computers.

Necessary Special Qualification
*

Must possess, or acquired within 30 days from the date of hire, and maintain
a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico and have
a satisfactory driving record.

Necessary Special Requirements
*

Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work
history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed
necessary.
