for the

2008 MPMA Conference in Kansas City, Missouri

October 21-25, 2008

Background

The Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Mountain-Plains Museums Association (MPMA), provides financial assistance to a person who volunteers at a historic site or history museum located in MPMA's 10-state region so that they may attend MPMA’s annual conference.  Volunteers may be a board member or volunteer in any division of a museum. MPMA seeks candidates whose attendance at the conference will benefit their future involvement in the museum field or at their site. This year's conference will be held at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Missouri, from October 21-25, 2008.  The Historic Site Volunteer Scholarship of $500  is funded by Bob and Claudia Brown.   

 

Eligibility

1. Historic Site Volunteer ($500):   The Historic Site Volunteer Scholarship is for a volunteer in the MPMA region to learn more about the museum community. 

 

2.  Those who have received an MPMA scholarship in the past are not eligible to apply again.

 

Program Requirements

Scholarship recipients must agree to:

1.      Attend the entire conference, attending at least one session in the morning and afternoon of each day.

2.      Complete written evaluations of no less than two conference sessions (to be determined by the Scholarship Committee), which may appear in MPMA's newsletter, the Newsgram.

3.     Write an article for possible inclusion in the MPMA Newsgram on your experience as a  Scholarship recipient and how it benefited you.

4.     Be matched with a MPMA member who will act as a mentor during the conference.

5.      Attend the Mentor/Mentoree Gathering on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.

 

Eligible Expenses

MPMA Membership and conference registration will be covered by the scholarship.  Travel and lodging expenses may also be eligible expenses (MPMA's Scholarship Committee makes all lodging arrangements).  The cost to attend some special events, additional business meetings or workshops is not included.

MPMA's Annual Conference - Meeting in the Middle - in 2008  is in Kansas City, MO.  Mark your calendars now since this is a LATE OCTOBER Date. 
The conference is scheduled for October 21-25, 2008, at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Missouri. MPMA will collaborate with the Association of Midwest Museums Association. The conference will be Twice the Size! Twice the Fun!
