Subject: Conservation Advice

We need an objects conservator to advise us about, and perhaps provide treatment
of, a trophy cup from the 1930s. We are talking of displaying it, but it seems
rather tarnished and we want to polish it up first; however, we think it may have
a gold wash, which might be damaged by the normal polishing procedure for silver.

We’d like to find out for sure what the surface metal is and how to treat it; have
someone do the work if we can’t do it; and get advice on displaying it in such a
way as to inhibit future tarnishing.

Any advice from the list, or recommendations of conservators–-preferably in the
southeast–-would be much appreciated! Thanks much.
