The Petersen Automotive Museum is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to explore and present the history of the automobile and its impact on American life and culture using Los Angeles as the prime example. Located in the heart of Los Angeles’ famed Miracle Mile district, the Petersen Automotive Museum is one of the world’s largest and most innovative automotive museums.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Children’s Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Discovery Center (DC), including opening, operation, closing, continued maintenance and repair of exhibitions and facilities and accountability for DC staffing on both weekdays and weekends. The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison for the DC and Museum visitors and Staff. The Coordinator develops and implements monthly “Discovery Days” children’s programs, as well as all other children’s and family activities, programs, services, events, etc., including instruction of workshops and camps and in-gallery activities. The Coordinator also assists the Education Manager in developing, implementing, and improving new and existing children and family programs and services, including developing budgets, literature, publications, and assisting in promotion and marketing. The Coordinator manages the Birthday Party program with administrative assistance from the Education Program Scheduling Assistant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Coordinates and acts as the lead instructor of all children’s workshops, camps and after-school programs.
· Oversees the every-day operations of the Discovery Center from opening, operation to closing, as well as the maintenance of its exhibitions and facilities.
· Maintains and updates the DC Manual as needed.
· Works with School & Tour Services Coordinator to supervise volunteers assigned to the DC including: orienting and training new, as well as existing, volunteers and overseeing that the established, daily process and procedures are adhered to.
· Manages weekend Discovery Center Floor Assistants, including scheduling, assignment of duties, and annual evaluation.
· Provides Education Manager and Exhibitions Department with periodic updates and information concerning visitor concerns or problems, broken or missing exhibition components, and suggestions for general DC improvements.
· Serves as the primary liaison for Museum visitors and Staff regarding all facets related or concerning the DC.
· Assists in the development, implementation, and improvement of new and existing children’s programs and services, including the development of budgets, related literature and publications, promotion and marketing, and completing related work orders and reports.
· Responsible for a variety of support tasks including working coordinating special activities and projects as assigned, such as providing support for children’s activities during Membership Department events.
