I know many people go away during the Summer, so I thought I'd share this opportunity with the listserves one more time! Deadline for applications is Sept. 1, 2008.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Rensselaer County Historical Society seeks an Executive Director who is an enthusiastic, visionary leader with proven administrative experience. The successful candidate will have the talents necessary to develop both existing and previously untapped sources of funding, to forge new private and public partnerships, to enhance community engagement and to work synergistically with Trustees, staff, and volunteers.

RCHS is a dynamic not-for-profit, private educational organization established in 1927 to connect local history and heritage with contemporary life. RCHS fulfills its mission from two adjacent 19th century townhouses in historic Troy, NY. The 1827 Hart-Cluett House serves as a house museum and the 1838 Carr Building houses programmatic, administrative, and research functions. RCHS offers a wide range of programs including lectures, walking tours, exhibitions, educational programs for children and adults, and an extensive local history research library. RCHS is accredited by the American Association of Museums.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader and skilled communicator able to garner financial resources and to effect positive interaction between RCHS and the diverse community it serves. An advanced degree in a museum-related field is desirable.

At least five years of management experience in a museum or other cultural organization, and documented fundraising success are required. The ability to apply new marketing techniques, including effective use of electronic and print media, to promote the mission of the organization is very important, along with a strong personal marketing sense.
