Alison, your worksheet "Tips for Cataloguing Volunteers" also begs the question of what to tip them? I mean, the standard is what 15%? 20%? Then do you tip just on the food served? So many questions... :)

Off of all of the recent silliness (and slightly off-color at that) I'm reminded of the internal commentary we used to have while I was employed at a museum that had in their collection the original bedroom furniture owned by the parents of Wilbur and Orville Wright. We used to joke that we could honestly say that we had the bed upon which flight was conceived. Museum folks have a tendency to have a very odd sense of humor- I've always enjoyed that about this field...

Cheers on a Friday!

Dan

We found an collections inventory worksheet titled "Tips for Cataloguing Volunteers". Now we are wondering how to apply the accession numbers.

Our photo archivist wanted to pass this amusing photo title found in the collections:

"Unidentified squirrel hunting boy"

My favorite story is from another registrar at another museum. They had,
in their collection, a Christmas bowling game, with the elves as bowling
pins. It was described as "little men with big balls"

One of ours is turn-of-the-century silver palm tree w/a real cocnut bowl
affixed. The old cat. card reads in part: "A ghastly piece of Victorian
kitsch."
