The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington (DC) seeks a Director of
Education and Public Programming.

The position is full-time. B.A. or B.S. and Master's in Museum Education or
similar field required. Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in the
museum field or with cultural programming, developing and implementing
programs.  A degree or strong interest in American Jewish History and/or
local history is a plus. Ability to prioritize set and achieve goals, meet
deadlines, work independently while showing initiative with a high degree of
accuracy and excellence is needed.  This is a key, management level position
within the organization and the candidate, although s/he will work closely
with the executive director, must be able to work independently as well as
be part of an effective team.

The Director of Education and Public Programs will provide leadership and
vision for multi-faceted programming that explores local Jewish history for
all audiences.  The position requires creative development, implementation
and evaluation of all educational programming including adult, school, and
educator and family education. The job entails developing interpretive
materials, managing all aspects of the volunteer/docent program, developing
and managing the budgets for public programs and education, and working with
exhibit designers and historians in planning educational programs for a new
museum experience. Supervisory skills are needed to oversee other members of
the staff involved in public programming

The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. The
Society's work environment is collegial.
