The Adler Planetarium is seeking an Assistant Educator to implement floor programs, formal education workshops and materials. This is an introductory position in which the educator will learn through working with visitors.
This position will report to the Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Associate Director for Public Programs. It is a temporary position beginning August, 2008 and ending July, 2009 with possibility of renewal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- implement science education programs for the general visitor
- assist other education staff members as needed for camps, tours, demonstrations, and other activities
- present field trip programs in Adler classrooms and theaters
- assist education staff with preschool workshops, Astronomy Connections and other Access teacher workshops
- assist in compiling and analyzing assessment data
Education and Experience:
- an undergraduate degree
- an undergraduate degree in Education or Science is preferred
- familiarity with common computer packages
- experience working with the public and making presentations
- experience teaching in an informal setting (e.g. camp) or in a classroom is preferred
- an interest and knowledge of space exploration and space science is preferred
The salary for this position is $22,000 a year.
