The Andrew County Museum and Historical Society (Savannah, Missouri) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Curator/Archivist.    This is a full-time temporary position (one-year) with permanent hire potential.  The Curator/Archivist is responsible for managing and caring for the museum’s collections in a manner which meets professional museum standards and fulfills the museum’s obligations as a steward of historical artifacts held in the public trust.  During the next year, the Curator/Archivist will work as an integral team member to complete a major exhibition project. The Curator/Archivist reports to the Director and is responsible for:

 

w        Processing artifacts into the collection; creating and updating accession and catalog records using the museum’s electronic database system (Past Perfect); improving organization and accessibility of collections.

w        Overseeing  projects to clean and stabilize objects, according to conservation standards, that are selected for exhibition;

w        Performing research needed for the completion of the exhibit project, and to fulfill public requests for historical information.

 

The Andrew County Museum is seeking a Curator/Archivist who, working with other museum personnel, will advance the Museum’s mission and make it the best county history museum in the Midwest.

 

Qualified candidates for the position of Curator/Archivist will have:

 

w        Master’s Degree in history, art history, museum studies, archaeology, or similar field and at least one year of professional experience managing and caring for collections, or Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of professional experience managing and caring for collections.

w        Strong organizational skills and the ability to function as part of a project team.

w        Research and customer service proficiencies.

 

Starting Salary Range: $25,000-$30,000, plus benefits.

Over the past decade, the Museum has:

w        adopted a strategic plan, guiding the Museum in a transformation from an institution  with static displays of  “legacy collections” to a dynamic, active place with exciting, new, interpretive exhibits;

w        completed an $830,000 capital campaign to support the new exhibit program;

w        won passage of a county-wide sales tax to support the Museum’s annual operating expenses;

w        researched, planned, designed and installed a 900 sq. ft. orientation exhibit  which summarizes Andrew County’s history and serves as introduction to A Rural Way of Life, a new, permanent, 3,900-square-foot exhibit.

 

During the next year, the Museum will complete A Rural Way of Life’s additional 3,000 square feet and introduce new programs for visitors.
