Contract Registrarial Clerk

 

This position is part of a 2-person team for a competitive bid for a conservation survey of furniture at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.  Clerk will work with a conservator to record statistical and condition information in hard copy and/or laptop computer.  Project is tentatively scheduled for the first three weeks of August, with possible extensions in October and November if needed, but exact schedule is subject to change.  Work days are anticipated to be Monday - Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM, with ˝ hour for lunch, for a 6 ˝ hour work day.  Team will move from room to room in a rapid manner locating and surveying historic furniture.  Project may also involve transcription of hard copy to computer off-site at the Clerk’s own facility.

 

Required skills:  Familiarity with historic objects and collections terminology.  Excellent typing speed and accuracy.  Neat and efficient handwriting.  Good working knowledge of Word 2003 or later.  Ability to work effectively in informal and temporary facilities.  Reasonable physical endurance, and ability to walk a number of miles each day while working on one’s feet.  Must be located within daily commuting distance of US Capitol or have one’s own lodging in Washington, DC.  Great opportunity for a recent museum studies graduate or an intern to gain experience in an important historical collection.
