Museum educators have a new resource for measuring satisfaction and opinions of teachers and students who take part in on-site education programs. The American Association for State and Local History’s Performance Management education survey program is appropriate for use by history museums, outdoor and living history sites, historic houses, state historical societies, and related institutions. Three questions on the survey instrument are customized to address issues specific to a participating institution.

The deadline to sign up for the 2008 group is August 15. The next group will not begin until August 2009.

Institutions that take part in the Performance Management education survey program receive information and data about what teachers and students want and need for a successful visit. They also receive valuable support material for strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, and program development.

The program is approximately one year in length. The goal is to collect a total of 100 teacher surveys and 200 student ones. The cost to participate is $4,200. AASLH institutional members pay a discounted fee of $3,500. AASLH’s payment plan allows many museums to pay the fee over the course of two fiscal years.
