Hello,
What is the best way to monitor for pests? Are there certain traps that
are better than others? Are there some that should be avoided at all
costs?

Gaylord offers a pest monitoring kit, complete with identification poster, bait and traps. I've tried the sonic pest control and they don't really work. (Neat idea though, since it is cheap and green friendly.) Commercial traps will work well, but depending on placement (collections, exhibit hall, etc.) make sure to account for off-gassing.
