Position Description:
Registrar will support the museum collections department in the care of the permanent collection. The Registrar will be supervised by the Museum’s Chief Registrar and work closely with the Curator of Collections and other curators, as supporting staff in the pursuit of the Museum's collection goals. 
 
The Registrar assists in the day-to-day operation and management of the permanent collection and related registration activities including: 

Assists with the acquisitions and deaccession process.
Aides in creation and maintenance of object collection records (manual and electronic).  
Organizes handling, packing, and inspection of objects entering or leaving the museum; condition reporting of museum objects; and participates in collection inventories; initiates and generates relevant documentation. 
Inputs and updates collection data into the TMS collection database, as needed; procures and generates collection object reports, letters, and correspondence.  
Coordination and supervision of individual and group access to object collection and object records. 
Assist in departmental planning / development of an accessible online database; provide access to object images and updates image database records accordingly. 
Assist in monitoring departmental budget; generates purchase orders for collection supplies and materials. 
Supervises interns, and volunteers. 
Occasionally participates in exhibition installation and de-installation preparation and staging for permanent and temporary exhibitions. 
Oversee selected special projects and performs other related duties, as assigned
 
The candidate should have a proficiency in and demonstrated knowledge of professional museum policies and procedures, and current registration practices and principles, including: management of collection documentation records (manual and electronic - TMS database experience a plus); digital collection standards; preservation standards; art handling techniques; and packing and storage standards and procedures for works of art. The candidate should have experience with Photoshop, digital cameras and scanners. Must be extremely accurate, resourceful, detail oriented, self-motivated, and flexible in multi-tasking with ability to analyze and solve problems. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are critical. The candidate must be computer literate. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team with accuracy and minimal guidance. The candidate should have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Candidate must have the ability to lift at least 25lbs, sit and stand for long periods, work at a computer for an extended time, work with the public in a professional businesslike manner and travel when needed. Candidate must have the ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary. Candidate must have the ability to visually inspect artwork.
 
Required Education:
Master's degree in Museum’s Studies, Art History, History, Anthropology or related field with one year of registration or collection management experience in a museum 
Or
Bachelor's degree in Museum’s Studies, Art History, History, Anthropology or related field and three years of registration or collection management experience in a museum
 
Salary range: $34,500 – $36,500 annually (depending on experience) plus health, dental, vision and retirement benefits
