Greetings
all:
Here
are some resources for those who are interested and/or working in this area.
Last
November the Kilgarlin Center at the University of Texas School of Information in
partnership with The Getty Conservation Institute, the J. Paul Getty Trust, the
UT Center for Sustainable Development of the UT Department of Architecture and
others, sponsored a two-day symposium: “From Gray Areas to Green Areas: Developing
Sustainable Practices in Preservation Environments”. There were a
number of excellent presentations at the symposium. A number of the speakers
are at the forefront of research and developing applications in this area.
Additional work in this area is being done at the Centre for
Sustainable Heritage at the University College London. The Getty
Conservation Institute Newsletter, Volume 22, Number 1, 2007 devotes the entire
issue on preventive conservation, sustainability and environmental management.
The issue is available on-line at the Getty website: www.getty.edu in the “Conservation”
section.

Subject: Going Green?
With the talk about global warming and reducing one's carbon
footprint, A) what steps has your institution taken to "Go Green,"
and B) what steps have you taken, if any, to help raise the public
consciousness on the same topic?
Seems to me, with the rechargeable battery flashlight
shining on this topic, it would be a good thing for all museums to do part A
and some museums to do part B.
