Assistant Director/Educator
Slate Valley Museum, a growing and dynamic professional
museum in Upstate New York on the Vermont border, seeks a full time Assistant
Director/Educator beginning August 1, 2008. The museum interprets the history
of the region’s slate industry with emphasis on geology, immigration, and
tools and technology. A new visitor/interpretive center addition that will house
an exhibit of large quarry machinery will open in June 2008. Ideal candidate is
an energetic generalist with education background who will 1) work closely with
the Executive Director in exhibition research, collections care and management,
public programming, and grant research; and, 2) direct school programs, adult
group programs, and volunteer docent training. Minimum requirements are a B.A.
in museum studies or closely related field, familiarity with standards-based
school programming, excellent writing skills, strong public speaking ability,
and willingness to share responsibilities in a small museum setting.
Year-round, Tuesday through Saturday work schedule, some evenings. Salary is
