A museum resource/research room is a place where people can go to read
or do research on a topic; it can be compared to a library. The Please
Touch Museum is planning on adding a resource/research room to our new
location at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Our
resource/research room will be a place where parents/child caregivers
and professionals can go to investigate and report on diverse topics and
uses of play. This is inline with the Please Touch Museum mission
"learning through play". Your resource room or resource area does not
have to hold the same information we would like to. I say resource area
because during my research with this survey a lot of places do not have
a separate room for their resources (books, magazines, videos, etc...).
Most of the resources are apart of another exhibit but answers to the
questions even from a place where there is just a resource area is also
very helpful. The point of the survey is to help the Please Touch Museum
take the appropriate steps in creating a solid, functional, and well
equipped resource/research room. I hope I answered your question and
cleared things up for you. Feel free to e-mail me any other questions
you may have.

Subject: Resource Room

Earlier in the month I sent out an e-mail asking for museums that have a
resource room for their participation in an online survey about their
resource room. Phase-I did not bring in as many surveys as hoped. For
Phase-II I am sending out the survey again with a deadline due by Monday
March 31, 2008. Please take a moment of your time and complete this
survey. When I have interviewed people by phone this process took less
than 15 minutes of there time. Your response to the questions will
remain anonymous but your name and affiliation will be included in the
Please Touch Museum official report.
