Position: Media Specialist -23-06
Key to this position is an individual’s expertise in using a wide range of hardware and equipment, including analog and digital camera equipment, scanning devices, and
audio and video software. This employee also will be expected to have experience working with established, and cutting-edge trends in, software applications and their programming components, including PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, digital asset management software, sophisticated scanning processes, and audio-video editing.
Knowledge of historical photographic processes, printmaking, and lithography, and the methods of achieving superior digital photo reproductions of images derived from these processes is essential.
Individuals with knowledge of relational database design (including familiarity with SQL) and current and projected data storage and retrieval as utilized in a digital library environment is also
desired.
- This position reports to the Association’s staff historian and web master (position 21)
- Works as a member of a team under the direction of the staff historian and web master creating and maintaining a digital photographic archives
- Assists the Association’s staff historian and webmaster with content updates and developing web site pages
- Works in tandem with the Association’s Rights and Reproductions Coordinator in image editing and preparation to produce high resolution scans and digital print creation
- Fulfills Association’s staff internal requests, involving photographic copy work, requests for location assignments (WHHA sponsored events) architectural and product photography, and portraiture.
- Assists with special projects as requested involving graphic art or photographic productions
- Works as a member of an Association exhibition team and contributes to the exhibition design and production support of future exhibits at the White House Visitor Center
- Assists the staff historian and webmaster with photographic research as assigned
- Assists in the Association’s online customer services, such as responding to e-mails and developing a more user friendly web site
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Art, History, American Civilization, Radio and Television, Digital Communications and Media, or Library Science from an accredited graduate school preferred. Experience working in the public education, museum or public history fields providing photographic and scanning expertise and media services a plus.
