The Phillips Collection Center for the Study of Modern Art Upcoming Events Special Lectures by Post-Doctoral Fellows The Eye of Marjorie Phillips by Jennifer T. Criss Thursday, March 6, 6:30 pm For forty-five years, painter Marjorie Phillips was wife and artistic sounding board to collector Duncan Phillips. Although Duncan has received the lion's share of recognition for the development of The Phillips Collection, Marjorie put her stamp on its evolution, too. This talk explores Marjorie's personal collecting aesthetic, focusing on her private collection, as well as on her contributions to the growth of the museum, from the time of her collaboration with Duncan through her tenure as director (1966-1972). Jennifer T. Criss was a post-doctoral fellow at the Phillips' Center for the Study of Modern Art/Illinois at the Phillips in the fall 2007 and teaches art history at The George Washington University. Lecture takes place in the Sant Auditorium. Included in museum admission; free to members. Less familiar is that his understanding of scientific inquiry lay behind his efforts to translate invisible phenomena, including sound, into pictorial language. Rachael DeLue, professor of American Art at Princeton University, is a 2008 post-doctoral fellow at the Phillips' Center for the Study of Modern Art/Illinois at the Phillips. Lecture takes place at the Center, a Carriage House behind the museum.
