You can also buy magnetic backed paper at most office supply stores, print out several of each digit, cut with a paper cutter, and make your own magnetic numbers and prefixes.

Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] What is this called and where do I get one?

Desk size interchangeable vinyl letter signs seem hard to find -- bigger ones no problem so-----

try searching for       magnetic desk sign

this comes with the letters for under $40
"...Wall/desk magnetic nameplate is ideal for designating departments or creating personal, professional nameplates. Complete signage system includes: base, grooved insert, clear protective lens, and an assortment of magnetic letters, numbers and symbols to create almost any message. Features an attachable desktop stand as well as wall mounting options. Easy to set up and change. Smooth black frame with rounded edges fits into any office environment. Includes 268 flat magnetic characters – half large, half small...."
Office supply stores sell the triangular name signs you describe
or cut a piece of wood the size you need
flat with a small piece in back for a support

and paint it with magnetic paint
Such paint is available ie white etc.

then try a web search for
magnetic letter sets
or just
changeable letter sets

here is one result
http://www.displays2go.com/sub5.asp?ID=2238n any paint store also Wal-mart in a spray can.
It is usually black but then can be painted over with any color ie white
