Is the oil something that was factory-applied, or was it applied by
staff? Factory
applied
If factory, can you tell where it is coming from? Seems to drip
from the drawer above, occurring in multiple drawers per cabinet, multiple
cabinets
Has something obviously ruptured? No
Does it appear to be internal, or simply on the surface? Internal to the
cabinet, tho I don’t know if it’s a drawer-by-drawer thing or one
big leak – there are 20 drawers per cabinet and I’d like to avoid
pulling out everything and creating a new nightmare.
What has changed recently that caused this problem to start now? It apparently
has been going on for awhile and brought to my attention by the textile
assistant when the oil “blobs” started to get worse. No change in
temp/humidity a little drier due to time of year.
Perhaps nothing, but maybe you have a new maintenance technician that
is being a bit too zealous? The only people touching the cabinets are the
Curator, her assistant and myself, none of whom have the time to regrease 160
drawers.
How large and heavy are the drawers? About 36”
wide, 24” deep, 1” high, a few pounds, easy to remove and not very
heavy to move around.
