Education Director
Cliveden, Inc., a historic site of the National Trust for
Historic Preservation, seeks an experienced, creative professional to serve as
Education Director. Cliveden

Position
Summary:
The Education Director is a full-time position
responsible for managing all aspects of Cliveden’s educational and public
programming and for directing the marketing of programs at
Cliveden.
Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities:
§
This position requires
excellent organizational, interpersonal, public speaking, and critical thinking
skills; knowledge of learning styles and current educational practices;
experience working with school-age and adult audiences; experience creating
programs that connect history with communities; experience with marketing; and a
strong interest in working collaboratively.
§
Candidates should have a B.A.
in history, education, or related field, M.A. preferred; a minimum of 2 years
museum or education experience; experience in public speaking and teaching;
proficiency with technology, and ability to work as a member of a
team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
§
Coordinates all programming,
including museum education, guides training, heritage tourism, and community
engagement programs.
§
Oversees the development and
implementation of the museum's docent and tour program.
§
Supervises the tour
scheduling, assigning of docents, and maintenance of the tour calendar.
§
Develops and produces docent
resources including training manual, electronic resources, hands-on interpretive
materials for tours, and self-guided materials.
§
Develops evaluation tools to
assess and improve tours and to strengthen the docent
program.
§
Oversees Marketing and Public
Relations strategies to develop and disseminate promotional materials, including
managing input into website and e-newsletter.
§
Designs and coordinates docent
training sessions on history, teaching techniques, educational theory and
methodology.
§
Meets regularly with the
Heritage Education Committee to address program issues.
§
Designs and conducts tours on
a regular basis.
§
Participates in program
initiatives with collaborative partners, such as the Historic Germantown house
museums, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Corporation and the National Trust for
Historic Preservation.
§
Works with staff, committees,
and volunteers to organize and produce signature programs, such as History
Hunters, the Cliveden Institute and the Battle of Germantown.
§
Working with the staff,
oversees public and community use of the site, including use of Cliveden as a
venue for workshops and after-school programs.
§
Develops a vision for the
public programs of the Next Cliveden.
§
Assists with preparation of
annual program budget, annual reports, grants, and other departmental
administrative tasks.
§
Contributes to grant proposals
and development strategies as needed.
§
Represents the museum on a
local, state, and national level through participation in history and museum
organizations. Remains informed about current museum education, lifelong
learning research, and best practices.
Salary:
Mid-30s plus benefits, commensurate with experience.
