Administrator and Development Officer: Benjamin Franklin House Foundation

Benjamin Franklin House Foundation [BFHF] supports the activities of Benjamin Franklin House in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, through operating support, sponsorships, education, development, fundraising and other efforts. BFHF operates as an active and independent organization with a committed Board and American support structure.

Established as a tax-exempt organisation under IRS 501(c)(3) ruling in 2002, BFHF receives charitable donations from American supporters of Benjamin Franklin House. The BFHF periodically reviews grant proposals from Benjamin Franklin House and distributes funds in support of its mission.

For nearly sixteen years between 1757 and 1775, Dr. Benjamin Franklin – scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, US Founding Father and more – called 36 Craven Street home.

During this intense period, his main occupation as Colonial agent was mediating unrest between Britain and America.  Though ultimately unsuccessful, he planted seeds of a special relationship that continues to be a source of strength for both nations.

Benjamin Franklin House features:

* The Historical Experience using the historic spaces where so much took place as stage – blending live interpretation, leading edge sound, lighting, and visual projection – to tell the rich story of Franklin in London in his own words.

* The Student Science Centre inspiring young people through hands-on experiments from Franklin’s London years.  Ben translated scientific inquisitiveness into useful devices like the lightening rod, making positive and lasting contributions in science.

* The Scholarship Centre, a focal point in Europe for study of Franklin and the myriad subjects with which he is associated, with a full set of the Papers of Benjamin Franklin catalogued by Yale University, and an active symposia programme
