CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The Curriculum Development Manager will develop courses, classes and instructional materials that meet journalism, English and social studies standards of learning.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Develops courses, classes and instructional materials that meet journalism, English and social studies standards of learning.
  • Draws upon Newseum content and exhibits to develop courses and classes and develop training and materials for docents and staff who lead Education Department gallery talks/tours.
  • Serves as a Newseum educational tour guide when required.
  • Teaches/leads Newseum classes and instructional sessions.
  • Is involved in the development of NewsMania live and online questions.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the development of curriculum and educational materials (examples required).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Amendment principles, American history and the role of journalism in a democratic society.
  • Extensive understanding of national standards of learning as they relate to civics and social studies, particularly history.
  • Ability to develop and employ creative approaches to engaging young people while presenting Newseum content.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Exhibit creative and innovative approaches to presenting Newseum content to the public.
  • Possess exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule that includes nights and weekends.
  • Minimum five years experience developing curriculum.
  • The Freedom Forum/Newseum may require applicants to successfully pass pre-employment background and/or drug screenings.
