On Saturday, January 5, SAFE/Saving Antiquities for Everyone will present the 2008 Beacon Awards to Donny George, former Director General of the Iraq Museums and Chairman of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, to recognize his efforts to protect and preserve Iraq's precious archaeological heritage; and to Neil Brodie, for his outstanding efforts as Research Centre at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research (University of Cambridge) to raise public awareness about the devastating consequences of the illicit antiquities trade and the looting of ancient sites and monuments around the world.
A Reception for the Awards ceremony will take place at the Archaeological Institute of America's (AIA) Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago where SAFE will be an exhibitor. The evening will begin with a special presentation by Neil Brodie on his "Personal Perspectives on the Antiquities Trade". Donny George will lead two SAFE Tours on Sunday, January 6, at the Oriental Institute Museum.
