The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave, in collaboration with poster collector Don Look, offers: THE REEL WEST: Cliché and Character at the Saturday Matinee Six Guns, Sidekicks, Sex Appeal, And…Virtue. These themes and more are illustrated in over 40 posters in “The Reel West: Cliché and Character at the Saturday Matinee.” Stunning graphics attracted families to the Old West of the Saturday Matinee—where action and adventure were certain, characters were familiar, and moral clarity was writ large on the big screen. The exhibition explores the role models, the stereotypes, and the predictable story lines of Western B movies. At the heart of this exhibition is a sense of nostalgia and a window into the world of the 1940s and 1950s when families escaped into the exciting world of the Wild West by visiting the cinema. Each poster has a unique way of telling this story. Some images feature the sinister villain, while others depict the gentle singing cowboy with his comedian sidekick. The active graphics, the bright colors, and the compelling compositions will capture your visitors' imaginations and draw them into the Saturday Matinee.
