Description: The Education Programs Manager is a career-building,
professional, permanent position responsible for effective execution and
implementation of a full range of interpretive programs and other
activities related to public education and community relations. This
individual works under supervision with considerable latitude for use of
initiative and independent judgment. Essential to this position is the
ability to foster and maintain relationships with staff, students,
volunteers, partners, and patrons.
Salary is $35,000/year plus full University benefits. A background check
is required prior to final appointment. Position is open until
filled.
Duties and Responsibilities (including supervisory):
- prepares education and interpretive materials for diverse
exhibitions, programs, and outdoor trails;
- develops, delivers, and evaluates educational programs for visitors
of all ages, and educational programs for school children grades
preK-12;
- designs and implements professional development workshops and
seminars for teachers in the social and natural sciences content areas to
interface with district curriculum;
- develops and coordinates education outreach programs with area
schools and organizations;
- assists in grant proposal research and writing to support educational
and public programs;
- manages public relations publications and functions;
- coordinates and oversees all events held at the Landmark by outside
organizations;
- trains and supervises support positions including interns;
- recruits, trains, manages, and evaluates volunteers;
- manages the education office;
- assists with other institution activities as needed.
Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate level of physical activity. The
employee must physically be able to:
- Lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds;
- Sit, stand, walk throughout the facility (including trails) for
extended periods of time.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of and familiarity with non-formal education and
interactive teaching theory and methods;
- Superior written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to manage schedule and priorities;
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple, diverse tasks, seeking
help when needed;
- Self-motivation to achieve goals and complete projects individually
and with groups;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; proven aptitude to make sound
decisions under pressure;
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office; Pagemaker 7.0, Dreamweaver,
and Filemaker Pro 5 a plus.
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience
- Master’s in Museum Science or appropriate discipline with
experience/training in museum education theory and concepts, anthropology
and natural history theory and concepts, curriculum development, and
volunteer management.
- Five years museum experience in educational programming or curriculum
planning and interpretation.
- Three years experience working with both children and adult
groups.
