We recently bought a Marantz model PMD660 Solid State Recorder for an oral history project. It uses CF memory cards rather than tapes which we have found to be an improvement.   It's pretty small and portable (about 5x8x2 inches and 2 pounds). We've used it to record while walking along our trails, while riding in a truck on the trails and in an office. The results have all been very good.

[MUSEUM-L] tape recorders for oral histories

Good morning!

We are going to be starting an oral history project soon, but are in need of a small, portable tape recorder. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands or sources? We are interested in the kind that hold the standard-size tapes, not the micro ones. Thanks in advance!
