Hello, my name is Sarah Casebolt and I am really hoping that you will take my survey concerning Costumes and Living History Sites. I am a graduate student in the History of Decorative Arts MA Program at Parsons School of Design/Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum and am very interested in how costumes affect the visitor experience and the capability of historic sites to develop an accurate costume program. I hope to get the most honest answers about how costumes are managed and integrated into the museum setting.

For this survey, I am seeking participation from those who currently work in museums/historic sites with costumed interpreters, those who have worked in museums/historic sites with costumed interpreters, and/or costumed interpreters themselves. Please keep in mind that I am excluding reenactors from this survey. After all the surveys are compiled, I will be responding back to those who have participated with my findings. I believe that sharing my results might help museums benchmark their costume program against the state of costumes in historic sites across the United States. In the end, it might be possible to create a set of standards regarding costumes and costumed interpreters. Please click on this link to access the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=pjpqgDIOW8GfaBcnemj0ZA_3d_3d
The survey should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and I am hoping have all the results by Monday November 5, 2007.

In addition, I am also interested in reviewing copies of any visitor surveys conducted at living history sites, or historic sites with costumed interpreters, particularly if any parts of the survey focus on costumes. I believe I can integrate these findings with what I am trying to accomplish with this survey. If you would be willing to share copies of those surveys and reports, please forward them to me at:

Best Wishes,
