Hi All,

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum was recently given two pairs of chaps for the collection, both with various issues. One pair is wooly chaps dating from about 1900. They are shotgun style with the angora on one side of the leg and leather encasing the other. They came out of someone's stable and aren't the cleanest pair I've seen. What is the best way to clean them for storage? I'm concerned about insects in the angora. We've them vacuumed already - is there anything else than can be done?

The other pair are more modern, dating to the mid-1970s or early 1980s. They are batwing style and were worn by a rodeo pickup man. They are heavily padded with foam through the length of the leg for protection. They were kept in a stable, and in addition to a little leather rot, they smell moldy. Again, they've been vacuumed, but I wonder if the foam molded in the leg. Is there a way to clean them, display and/ or store them safely without spreading mold spores all over if the mold is active?

Many thanks for any direction you can give me!
