We are building a new exhibit, and are planning to use (mostly) NoUVIR fiber-optic for highlighting and Prolume LIA Modules (LEDs) for general case lighting. Both firms are excellent to do business with, they are extremely knowledgeable in museum needs, and are small enough to call and talk to easily. They both have good turn around for orders. Both products give off no ultra-violet or infrared, and in the case of the fiber the heat source can be isolated from the cases. The heat given off by the LEDs is negligible. We will use track lighting (incandescent and halogen) only for lighting walkways, labels, and graphics.

We have lit some very difficult displays using these products.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Lighting in museums

Knowing, of course, most of what the literature recommends and what the "experts" say, thought I'd see if I could get real live museum people to tell me the particulars on the lights used in your facility.  We're building a new museum and everyone has an opinion.  What is the reality?  Brands, sizes, ones you've had good experience with, ones you would never have in a new museum, etc.    Although this not a fun question like  "what type of music do you listen to when packing to move...?"  It is one that could be very practical for a real world situation.  Respond on list or off, doesn't matter to me.  Thanks.  Darrell
