Now Hiring:  Visual Resources Curator (interim, 30 hours a week, through June 30, 2008)

 

The Department of Art and Design at East Tennessee State University seeks a part-time (30 hours a week) curator to manage and develop its visual resources collection of slides and digital images. This will be an interim staff position through June 30, 2008. Salary range for the part-time interim position will be $ 15,000 from September 2007 through June 2008. (If approved and funded by the administration, a search will also be conducted for a permanent  curator to begin July 2008.) 

 

The visual resources curator is responsible for the overall management of the collection of approximately 100,000 slides and growing collection of 60,000+ digital images. The primary duty of the curator is creating art images for teaching and faculty presentations. The curator is responsible for building the new digital art image database, using the MDID software program developed by James Madison University.  S/he will implement the eventual conversion of the collection to digital format. Duties include the production, acquisition, cataloging, circulation, conservation, and maintenance of the collection in support of the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Art and Design.  The curator also is responsible for the supervision of personnel hiring, training and evaluation of student workers. The curator will facilitate faculty and student use and production of visual resources for teaching, learning and scholarship. The collection supports an art and art history faculty of 14 full time, 13 adjunct faculty and 20 graduate and 260 undergraduate students, as well as a limited number of faculty from other departments. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge of art history with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art, or  a related field.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Skilled in use of digital imaging technology, including scanning and adjustment of images and Adobe Photoshop
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn MDID (Madison Digital Image Data Base) to catalogue the collection
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with faculty, staff and students.

The Department of Art & Design has offered program of study in art since 1911. Degrees offered are the BFA in Art with concentrations in 9 studio areas, the BA in art education, art history, or studio art, the MA in art education, art history, or studio art, and the MFA in studio art. ETSU is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD.)
