FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 10, 2007 Press Contacts 202-653-4632 Jeannine Mjoseth, [log in to unmask] Mamie Bittner, [log in to unmask] IMLS Director Radice Discusses Conservation on AARP's PrimeTime Radio Please listen to an online radio interview with Anne-Imelda Radice, Ph.D., Director of the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services on AARP's PrimeTime Radio at http://radioprimetime.org/radio.htm. Mike Cuthbert, host of PrimeTime, veteran radio personality, and knowledgeable conservation layman, conducted the 24-minute interview that focuses on Radice's interest in conservation and IMLS's Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action, a multi-year national initiative to raise public awareness and inspire action to care for library and museum collections throughout the United States. In the lively interview, Radice describes experiences that shaped her commitment to conservation. She talks about being a teen volunteer who helped care for art damaged during the devastating 1966 flood in Florence, Italy, about her experience as the first director of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (1983-1989), and her tenure as Architectural Historian and Curator of the Office of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol (1976 to 1981). She also spells out differences in the terms 'preservation,' 'conservation,' and 'restoration' and describes how the field of conservation has changed over time. The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.
