What about something like one of these --

There are NUMERIOUS decorative stamped patterns out there (wood planks, stones, bricks, etc)....  Color(s) can be added to the mix, and or washed over the top to create a wonderful textural appearance.    We've got a simulated wood floor stamped overlay in our musuem which looks fantastic and is very durable.  I'd talk with any local concrete installer, tell them what you're looking for, and they should be able to find/replicate something pretty close.
