Regarding preference of the respective formats, you certainly lose content
moving from a brochure to a rack card. However, the rack card can act more
like an elevated advertisement. Most recipients of such collateral pieces
don’t read the copy of a full brochure. Cliché, yes – but sometimes less is
more. The rack card can hit the high points, list hours and rates, give 1-3
good images, and drive traffic to a Web site. You want it to be clear and
clean – not too much information. If someone is interested, they’ll call or
contact you for more details.

Also – for printing, you can save a bundle. I suggest looking at on-line
gang printers. Good ones to start with are: 48hourprint, Print Place and
Zoo Printing. This type of printers run (gang) a lot of jobs at once and
pass on the savings to all the clients included with amazingly fast
turnaround times and varying levels of delivery speeds. I can’t seem to
find ANY local printers that can match their prices (this of course excludes
custom printing jobs like embossed folders or dye-cut specialty pieces.)

Hope that helps!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Museum Brochures

Have a quick question that I hope some of you might want to answer. We are a
small museum in the Washington, DC area based on an Army base. We are
getting ready to redo our museum brochure and have thought about doing a
rack card instead. Our current brochure is a tri-fold full-color with lots
of pictures and very little text. Does anyone have any preferences for one
type over the other? And does anyone know of any cost savings for doing the
rack card?

Thanks in advance for the info.
