“Augustus Saint-Gaudens and the Angels of Grief” by Cynthia Mills, historian, Smithsonian American Art Museum
“After Saint-Gaudens: Casts, Memories and Legacies” by Thayer Tolles, associate curator of American paintings and sculpture, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
“Conservation of the Shaw Memorial: The Long Journey” by Shelley Sturman, head of object conservation, National Gallery of Art
Erika Doss, chair of the American studies department at the University of Notre Dame, will moderate a panel discussion following the presentations.
The public is encouraged to take time before or after the symposium to explore the 13 sculptures by Saint-Gaudens on display in the museum’s permanent collection galleries on the second floor and in the Luce Foundation Center.
