POSITION: Education
Program Manager
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Education Program Manager is responsible for the development and
implementation of educational programs for K-12 students and teachers
interpreting the museums natural science and fine arts collection, including
educator led programs, outreach and after school programs and teacher
professional development workshops. The Education Program Manager will develop
curriculum consistent with the mission and vision of the Museum and that meets
state and national standards. This position supervises the Education
Specialist/Docent Coordinator, is responsible for the preparation and oversight
of the education budget, and interfaces with public program,
exhibition and collection staff to develop programs and resources.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Educator-Led Programs:
Develop, implement and present as instructor or obtain instructor for
educational programming for visiting K-12 school groups. Programs focus on the
exhibitions, collections and mission of the
Curriculum:
Oversee the development of curriculum consistent with the mission and vision of
the Museum and that meets state and national standards
Docent Program Coordinator:
Supervises the Education Specialist/Docent Coordinator to ensure the docent
program is being managed in accordance with the goals of the department and the
institution: management includes
recruitment, training, administration, and evaluation.
Educational Outreach and Special
Programs: Develop, schedule and present as instructor or
obtain instructor for educational activities for a variety of on site and off
site programs including, but not limited to camps, classes and after school
programs for target populations.
K- 12 Teacher Education:
Develop, schedule and present as instructor or obtain instructors for workshops
and programs for pre and in-service teachers professional development.
Promotion and Marketing:
Work directly with the Director of Marketing to develop the education
collateral including the copy for education brochure, teacher reception
postcards and professional development material. Prepare the museum’s Educator E-Newsletter.
Budget: Prepare
and present annual budgetary goals and objectives for education portion of the
interpretation departmental budget. Prepare budgets for grant proposals.

EQUIPMENT SKILLS REQUIRED:
Candidate must be computer literate with a strong knowledge of current
MS applications, a PC typing speed of min 25 WPM and an understanding of
internet research techniques. Candidate must maintain a current

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in museum education, history, humanities,
archeology, natural science, science
or math education, arts education, or art history. A Masters degree in
any of the above is a plus. Posses knowledge of learning theory, and museum practices.
Skills:
Excellent writing and public speaking skills necessary. Ability to work
effectively under minimal supervision and in a team oriented environment.
Must communicate professionally with administrators, educators, and the general
public. Sense of humor and total enjoyment of work is an absolute must!
Experience:
Experience working as an educator (formally or informally) with school age
students, and the general public, in a museum or other public program settings.
