The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) announces its new Performance Management program that measures satisfaction and opinions of teachers and students who take part in education programs offered by museums, historic houses, historical societies, and related institutions. Institutions that take part in the survey program receive valuable information and data about what teachers and students want and need for a successful visit. They also receive support material for strategic planning, fund raising, marketing, and program development. Additionally, the program provides benchmarks that allow participating institutions to compare their results with museums of similar size, type, and geographic location.

The deadline to sign up is August 15th. The next group will not begin until August 2008.

The new education survey program is the third to be offered by AASLH's Performance Management program, joining the museum and historic house visitor survey programs already offered twice each year. AASLH piloted the education program with six institutions: Hagley Museum, Historic New England, Johnson County (KS) Museum, Kentucky Historical Society, Michigan Historical Center, and the Ohio Historical Society.

The cost to take part in the education survey program is $3,500 ($4,200 for non-members). AASLH's payment plan allows many institutions to pay the fee over the course of two fiscal years. AASLH encourages institutions that have access to state grant programs to ask whether participation in the Performance Management program qualifies for funding.
