Corcoran Gallery of Art Education Department
Master Teacher/Lecturer

Contract Position: Five month term (mid August to mid January)

 
Overview:  Responsible for engaging broad and diverse audiences through the development and implementation of educational lectures and discussions inspired by the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s permanent collection. This position is responsible for developing a training curriculum on the European collection, providing lecture format training sessions for volunteer docents, presenting lectures to educational groups, and leading weekly gallery talks to the general public. 
 

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of a Masters of Arts degree in Art History, Art Education or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Three to five years teaching or museum experience.
  3. Excellent research and oral communication skills.
  4. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work using MS Office products, including Word and Powerpoint and other related software applications.
  6. Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
  7. Knowledge and experience working with museum volunteers and the public.
  8. Ability to work with co-workers, volunteers and the public professionally and tactfully, and support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.
 
Working Conditions:
Position requires some evening, morning and weekend work to participate in Museum programs and activities.
 
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Standing: Must be able to stand for one hour.
Speaking/Hearing: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communicating with co-workers, volunteers and the public.
