Assistant Curator of Education
The Norton Museum of Art is
seeking a highly organized, motivated individual to join our Education
Department. A 4-year college degree is required; Masters Degree preferred. The
responsibilities of the Assistant Curator of Education include the following:
Docent Program:
Responsible for all aspects of Docent training and management,
including interviewing, orientation, planning and executing training program
and performance evaluations. Prepares public programming and docent
education calendar and schedules guest lecturers for docents. Attends
monthly Docent Advisory Council meetings and summer planning sessions.
Coordinates efforts with Volunteer and Tour Coordinator to prepare monthly
mailings to docents. Prepares and schedules Senior Docent Education and Docent
Candidate programs. Manages resource binders located in the Volunteer
Room.
Creates and presents Power Point presentations, produces and distributes Docent
Handouts for special exhibition training sessions. Responsibility shared
currently with Curator of Education.
Lecture Series & Live at the Norton
Works with Curator of Education and collection curators to develop
lectures series, including exhibition lecture series and ArtSpeaks. Coordinates
and processes the travel arrangements and payments for guest lecturers. Attends
lectures. Assists Curator of Education with Live at the Norton Concert
Series.
Lecturing/Research
Offers six public gallery talks (Treasure of the Month talks) per
year on a bi-monthly basis. Responsibility shared currently with Curator
of Education. Also, offers public lectures and tours on various aspects
of the collection/exhibitions as needed. Assists with informing docents
of new acquisitions, etc.
College Outreach
Serves as liaison with college administrators and faculty to
increase college touring and use of the museum as a cultural resource.
Writes and distributes college e-newsletter at beginning of fall and spring
semesters.
General Duties
Researches and writes gallery guides to the permanent
collections. Prepares list of topics for weekday one-half hour docent-led
tours. Available to give slide or Power Point illustrated outside
lectures on the Norton collection, special exhibitions and history of art lectures.
Available for Power Point illustrated lectures to front of house staff and
Security prior to major season exhibition. Proof text for Norton
publications, and wall texts, including special exhibitions. Research and
write wall text for exhibitions when required.
Microsoft Office Suite, MS Outlook experience required. Public speaking
skills required. The Norton Museum of Art
